With the support of People’s Community Clinic, Dr. Neavel established the Center for Adolescent Health and the GOALS programs over 20 years ago. The Center for Adolescent Health serves youth ages 10-24 yo who often have complex medical and psychosocial conditions. CAH uses an interdisciplinary team-based approach to provide comprehensive, best practices care, incorporating reproductive and mental health into overall wellness. The GOALS program, which involves Pediatric, Adolescent, and Integrated Behavioral Health Departments at PCC, provides evaluation, ongoing treatment, and referral as necessary for youth ages 4-19 with learning, developmental, and behavioral problems that interfere with school success within the context of a medical home. Dr. Neavel is Medical Director of People’s Community Clinic’s at SAFE Children’s Shelter and the Manor Mustang Clinic.

Dr. Neavel earned her Bachelor of Arts in Plan II Honors at the University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Subsequently, she pursued Psychiatry Internship, Family Medicine Residency, and Adolescent and Developmental Disorders Fellowships at the University of Cincinnati. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Adolescent Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and the Society of Adolescent Health and Medicine. She was faculty and supervised the Adolescent Medicine rotation for Austin’s Pediatric Residency Program for many years. Dr. Neavel is on the Executive Committee of the Texas Youth Friendly Initiative in collaboration with the Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, Cardea, and the Adolescent Health Initiative. She is on the Texas Health Steps Advisory Panel, and a Travis County Medical Society Delegate to the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Neavel most recently was recognized as a Top Doctor in Adolescent Medicine by Austin Monthly and a Super Doctor by Texas Monthly.

Mentoring and teaching other health care providers have been part of the Center for Adolescent Health and the GOALS program since their founding. Because of this, Dr. Neavel frequently has students and observers with her in clinic. She appreciates families and patients sharing their stories and participating in the teaching.
