Austin Children’s Shelter Clinic

Collaboration with Austin Children’s Shelter (ACS) provides People’s the ability to provide primary medical care to improve the health of each child.

People’s Community Clinic and its Center for Adolescent Health provide high quality medical care to infants through 17 year olds placed at the shelter due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Services occur twice a week at the ACS campus and at the main People’s site as needed.

The Austin Children’s Shelter Clinic is operated by an experienced nurse practitioner, a medical assistant, and an off-site clinic coordinator with supervision by the Center for Adolescent Health medical director. Services are made possible with support from other clinic departments such as Nutrition Education, Integrated Behavioral Health, the Immunizations Program, and Laboratory Services.

Services provided by the clinic include preventive care, wellness and screening physicals, health education, immunizations, TB testing, family planning, minor, acute, and chronic illness care. The clinic also coordinates with ACS staff and rotating child and adolescent psychiatry residents around behavioral and psychiatric issues.
