Central Texans come together to once again support People’s and its patients.
Since 1996, People’s Community Clinic has hosted its annual “There’s No Such Thing as a Free Lunch” fundraiser to help support the programs and services for People’s more than 11,000 patients. This year’s event was held on May 9th and attended by nearly 500 people. The luncheon raised close to $300,000 for the clinic and its brand new state-of-the-art health facility in Northeast Austin. The new clinic, at 1101 Camino La Costa, officially opened its doors to patients in early April.
Your gifts matter. They affect the health of our community every day by enabling low-income families to receive quality health care services, such as providing life-saving vaccinations for children and elderly populations. People’s is grateful for each and every contribution.
The luncheon’s keynote speaker was Elena Marks, president and CEO of the Episcopal Health Foundation and a nonresident Fellow in Health Policy at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.
The luncheon also honored Senator Kirk Watson with the W. Neal Kocurek Health Advocacy Award for his tireless efforts to improve access to quality affordable healthcare for ALL Texans. Senator Watson is a long-standing champion for health in Central Texas. As a cancer survivor and diabetes advocate, Senator Watson knows very well the personal nature of health care, which is why he is passionate about making sure that all Tex
ans have access to quality, affordable health care. One of the topics discussed by Senator Watson was the current state of public healthcare in Central Texas and how organizations like the University of Texas and People’s Community Clinic are working together to reduce the coverage gap in healthcare for nearly 4.5 million Texans.
