Austin Children’s Shelter
PCC and its Center for Adolescent Health (CAH) provide high quality medical care to infants through 17 year olds who are placed at the Austin Children’s Shelter (ACS) due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Services occur twice a week at the newly developed ACS campus, and at the main PCC site as needed.
The Austin Children's Shelter Clinic is operated by an experienced nurse practitioner, a medical assistant, and an off-site clinic coordinator with supervision by the Center for Adolescent Health medical director. Services are made possible with support from other PCC departments such as Nutrition Education and Health Psychology, Integrated Behavioral Health, the Immunizations Program, Laboratory Services and the Center for Adolescent Health.
Collaboration with Austin Children's Shelter provides People’s the ability to provide primary medical care and psychiatric counseling to improve the health of each child. Services provided by the clinic include preventive care, wellness and screening physicals, health education, immunization, TB testing, family planning, minor acute and chronic illness care. The clinic also coordinates with ACS staff and rotating child and adolescent psychiatry residents around behavioral and psychiatric issues.
