THIRD TIME’S A CHARM FOR THE 2006 BENEFICIARY OF AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN CAPITOL 10,000
Peoples Community Clinic was selected for a third year as Statesman Capitol 10,000 beneficiary and first-time recipient for Statesman Junior ‘Dillo Kids Run.
AUSTIN, Texas – For an unprecedented third year in a row, People’s
Community Clinic was selected to be the beneficiary for the 29th annual
Austin American-Statesman Capitol 10,000, presented by Guaranty Bank, and
as the first-time beneficiary for the 8th annual Statesman Junior ‘Dillo
Kids Run. Founded in 1970, People’s is a non-profit, primary health
care facility for working families in the Austin area with little or no
health insurance. 11,000 patients call People’s Community Clinic their
medical home.
“Partnering with People’s Community Clinic is a perfect fit,”
said Michael Laosa, Statesman publisher. “By encouraging healthy lifestyles
through our annual event, we strive to bring people together for a healthy
and charitable cause. This year, $221,000 in sponsorship donations—the
highest ever--will go to People’s Community Clinic. It is also the
first year that proceeds from both the Junior ‘Dillo Kids Run and
Capitol 10,000 will go to one organization.”
Regina Rogoff, Executive Director of People’s Community Clinic said
she feels fortunate to have been chosen as the recipient for both events,
adding that
proceeds from the Junior ‘Dillo Kids Run will go toward their pediatric
and adolescent programs.
“As Austin’s leading independent clinic providing comprehensive
health care for uninsured Central Texans, we rely heavily on community support
and private donations,” Rogoff said. “Thanks to the generous
contributions of Guaranty Bank and this year’s event sponsors we at
People’s Community Clinic can continue our work addressing critical
healthcare needs and providing high quality, medical services to our local
community, including those medically underserved.”
Past sponsorship donations have contributed to the Clinic renovation and
toward sustaining core medical care ranging from prenatal to eldercare.
The Austin American-Statesman, along with representatives of Guaranty Bank
and event sponsors, presented the sponsorship proceeds check immediately
after the Junior Dillo on April 1 and right before the start of the Capitol
10K on April 2, 2006.
