The 2007 Luncheon Surpasses All Expectations!
Luncheon Fundraising Reaches and Exceeds $250,000
On May 14, 2007, a crowd of concerned Central Texans gathered at the Renaissance Hotel in the Arboretum to learn about the mission and programs of the People's Community Clinic. The Luncheon featured amazing speakers this year, including the wit and talent of our own Board President, Carl Stuart, who served as emcee.
Our featured speaker this year was Dr. Kenneth I. Shine, Executive Chancellor for Health Affairs at the University of Texas. Dr. Shine was also the senior advisor to the Task Force for Access to Health Care in Texas. He spoke about the Task Force's Report, "Code Red: The Critical Condition of Health in Texas" and the Clinic's role in addressing the serious issues that face the Texas healthcare system. Find more information about the Code Red Report.
Luncheon guests were also treated to a brief testimonial from a former patient, Louis Black. Mr. Black is currently the editor of the Austin Chronicle and spoke to the part that the Clinic played in providing healthcare to Chronicle writers in the early days of the publication.
The W. Neal Kocurek Award
People’s Community Clinic honors the memory of one of its strongest advocates and partners, the late W. Neal Kocurek, Ph.D., by choosing each year to honor an exceptional member of the Austin community with the W. Neal Kocurek Award for Health Care Advocacy. In 2007, the Clinic presented the W. Neal Kocurek Award to the St. David's Community Health Foundation in recognition of their long-term supporting partnership with the clinic. The Foundation has long been the Clinic's biggest supporter, and we are grateful that the St. David's family saw the benefit of our mission to the community and chose to take us under their wing.
Luncheon Underwriters, Sponsors and Benefactors
The Luncheon also provides a significant portion of the Clinic’s crucial fundraising support base, and we are grateful for the support of our underwriters, sponsors, benefactors, hosts and guests. You have demonstrated you support of our mission with your generosity, and we cannot thank you enough.
